VitalityMD’s physician-directed weight loss program goes beyond calorie counting and quick fixes. Over 90 days, we combine functional medicine, advanced blood testing, metabolic assessment and 3D body composition scans to find what is driving your weight gain, then build a plan around your biology. In clinic or virtually, you get the same medical oversight, personalization and accountability.
Our weight loss program is really a metabolic and inflammatory reset, so many patients who don’t need to lose weight benefit from it and simply feel better.

Weight loss rarely happens by willpower alone. Hormonal imbalance, insulin resistance, inflammation, gut health issues, nutrient deficiencies, stress and metabolic dysfunction all play a role. That’s why we focus on identifying and treating the root causes of weight gain, not just the symptoms.
All programs at VitalityMD are overseen by licensed medical providers with expertise in weight loss, metabolic health and functional medicine. Each patient gets an individualized plan based on objective medical data, not a generic diet plan. Your program may include:
Accurate diagnosis is the foundation of effective weight loss. Our extensive blood testing uncovers metabolic, hormonal and nutrient deficiency barriers that standard labs often miss. Testing may assess:
Some tests are not included in the base program and may involve additional fees.
A simple saliva swab can show which diet suits your metabolism, how you process carbs, fats, caffeine and alcohol, which training style works best for you, and why certain cravings may be harder for you. It’s especially helpful if you’re dealing with stubborn weight.
Insulin resistance. When your cells stop responding properly to insulin, sugar builds up in your blood, you crave more carbs, and your body stores more fat, particularly around the belly. Signs include sugar cravings, fatigue after meals, brain fog and a waist over 35″ (women) or 40″ (men).
Leptin resistance. Leptin tells your brain you’ve had enough to eat. A diet high in sugar and processed food, along with inflammation, poor sleep and stress, can block that signal, so you stay hungry even when your body has plenty of fuel.
We test for these and target them directly through nutrition, medication, supplements and lifestyle changes.
Weight alone doesn’t tell the full story. Our Styku 3D body scans measure body fat percentage, visceral (abdominal) fat, lean muscle mass, and fat distribution over time. This lets us tell fat loss from muscle loss, monitor visceral fat and adjust your treatment early. It’s especially important if you’re using weight loss injections, stuck on a plateau or coming off medication, because our goal is fat loss while preserving muscle.
| Patient | Weight lost | Body fat | Muscle |
|---|---|---|---|
| Female, 53 | 21 lb (6 lb visceral fat) | −5.4% | +5.1% |
| Female, 45 | 23 lb (3 lb visceral fat) | −4.2% | +3.9% |
| Female, 26 | 16 lb (1 lb visceral fat) | −9.7% | +9.2% |
For appropriate candidates, we offer prescribed weight loss injections as part of a complete plan. They are never used on their own and are based on your blood testing, metabolic health and medical history. Options, individually or in combination:
Weight loss injections may help regulate appetite, improve blood sugar control, support metabolism, reduce cravings and food noise, and increase fat burn. All medications are prescribed by licensed providers, closely monitored, and combined with nutrition, lifestyle and metabolic support.
VitalityMD is proud to be the first clinic in Toronto, and possibly in Canada, to offer a GLP-1 microdosing protocol.
Emsculpt NEO builds muscle while reducing fat, so pairing it with your program helps protect muscle as the weight comes off. Learn about Emsculpt NEO.
Our program provides high-touch, personalized virtual care with ongoing coaching and monitoring:
Many patients come to us frustrated because they aren’t losing weight despite dieting and exercise. Plateaus almost always have an underlying cause: metabolic slowdown, hormonal imbalance, insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, loss of muscle, inadequate nutrient intake, detoxification issues or gut problems. Using repeat body composition scans and targeted lab testing, we adjust your plan to restart fat loss while protecting muscle.
Our medical weight loss program supports adults with:
Because it works as a metabolic and inflammatory reset, the program also helps with:
Effective weight loss takes trust, education and ongoing support. Our team takes a compassionate, judgment-free approach, meeting you where you are and giving you clear explanations, collaborative decisions and a long-term health focus, not rapid weight loss at any cost.
The program is physician-directed by Dr. Shari Caplan, MD, a family physician with expertise in functional medicine, hormones, menopause, insulin resistance and metabolic health, and delivered by the VitalityMD medical team. Meet Dr. Caplan.
Medical weight loss is a physician-supervised approach that combines diagnostics, personalized nutrition, lifestyle coaching, and medications or injections when needed. It targets the root causes of weight gain, including hormones, inflammation and genetics.
Yes, if medically appropriate. Our physicians can prescribe GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide (Ozempic) or tirzepatide (Mounjaro) as part of a complete plan, with monitoring and support.
Safe, sustainable weight loss is typically 1 to 2 pounds per week. Losing 20 to 30 pounds usually takes 3 to 6 months with consistent medical support.
Exercise helps, but the program doesn’t require intense workouts. We design a realistic plan for your fitness level, and strength training improves long-term results.
We continue to support you with follow-up visits, a maintenance plan for any medication, continued access to Emsculpt NEO and lifestyle coaching.
Weight regain is common after any program, especially after stopping GLP-1 medication. That’s why we focus on root causes like insulin resistance and hormones, build lasting habits, and plan for maintenance or a gradual taper rather than stopping abruptly.
VitalityMD’s approach considers your existing conditions, medications and contraindications, and ongoing monitoring makes sure your plan supports your overall health.
Yes. Virtual patients get virtual visits with our medical providers, lab and body composition reviews, and the same medical oversight. MIC-B injections are available in person only.
Some components may be covered under extended health plans, but services like DNA testing, Styku scanning, lifestyle coaching or semaglutide injections are often paid out of pocket. VitalityMD can help you understand what might be covered under your specific plan, and offers financing through Beautifi to make care more accessible.
