How do we correct, or reverse signs of aging with Medical Anti-Aging Facials and Peels? First, understand how aging affects your skin.

As you age you lose subcutaneous fat resulting in the development of fine lines and wrinkles all over your body, but most noticeably on your face, neck, arms, and hands. Also, all those years basking in the sun has caused ample sun damage that has led to skin discoloration and fine wrinkles.

Your epidermis (outer layer of your skin) is composed of multiple layers of epidermal cells that provide a barrier against the environment while protecting deeper delicate tissues. This layer of skin helps to maintain an even internal temperature and prevent against dehydration. Your epidermal cells are fused together in a few ways. Tonofilaments, microscopic fibers, run between cells, anchoring them together while an extracellular surround each cell acting as a bonding agent to strengthen the bond. These cells are shed through the body’s natural exfoliation process to reveal fresh new skin cells.

To help reverse signs of aging, we speed up this process through various Anti-Aging Treatments, like chemical peels, microdermabrasion, and laser skin resurfacing, which can instantly restore a youthful glow, tighter skin, and more even skin tone while addressing other subtle signs of aging.

What do chemical peels do?

In this popular treatment, an exfoliating chemical, such as Glycolic Acid (AHA), Salicylic Acid (BHA), Lactic Acid, Resorcinol, and TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid) – or a combination of these, is applied directly to the skin, ‘wounding’ the skin causing dead skin cells to peel off while boosting collagen production. Post treatment, new skin is tighter and the look of fine lines, small scars, skin discoloration, and sun damage are improved. Whereas microdermabrasion breaks the tonofilaments through the act of physical exfoliation, chemical peels work to dissolve the bond we mentioned above.

When it comes to the strength of the chemical used or “level’ of chemical peel we choose, we base that decision on the problems you want to address. Chemical peels are good for correcting sun damage, reducing or eradicating wrinkles (depending on their depth and how long you’ve had them), improving dark skin discoloration, removing excessive blackheads, and may temporarily reduce excessive skin oils. However, chemical peels will not remove broken blood vessels, change poor diameter (which is impossible), is not a facelift, and is not appropriate for improving dark skin discoloration in certain skin types.

Post Treatment Care

Our Facials and chemical peels have very little down time. Depending on the depth of the peel, you should be able to return to your daily activities. You may experience redness right after your treatment and some peeling for up to a week. You should not go into the sun after your treatment as your skin will be sensitive to sun exposure. Heading to the gym, or sitting in the sauna, post treatment is also not a good idea. If you do plan on being outside, wear a hat, scarf, and sunscreen. Speak to your Vitality Skin Expert about your plans for the day and they will explain the proper precautions.
